There are a lot of misconceptions out there about Howard Stern. And though faithful fans of the shock jock are aware that he's actually at heart a charming and thoughtful guy (how else would he have landed his beautiful wife, Beth?), his haters would be amazed to learn that he's got a soft spot for animals.



While taking part in Purina's Better With Pets summit, Beth opened up to omg! about how her and Howard's lives were changed for the better when they began rescuing cats and kittens from municipal shelters; spots where euthanasia is the fate awaiting those unclaimed. After fostering the kittens for 3 to 5 weeks, the couple works to place the pets in good homes — many of which belong to Stern fans.While it's "torture" parting ways with their fosters, there was one furry feline they just couldn't say goodbye to — a blind cat named Bella who came to stay with them after they fostered her kittens and she underwent eye surgery. "[Since she's blind,] she learned our house by smell and touch. She learned who we were, and she just really bonded with Howard and me and my other four cats. Howard and I looked at each other the night and we were like, 'How can we let her go?' And it was at that moment where we said she's not going anywhere. Bella Stern, welcome to the family!"

"Howard spoke about them on the air, he photographed them, he named them," explains the model/actress/pet advocate, noting that they've had as many as 15 foster kittens living with them (at one time). "I nurtured them … and then the applications started pouring into his website. We found stellar families for our first litter of six. Now it's 47 kittens later — and we're still doing it."


Well, I scoop the poop out of the litter boxes," she laughs, adding that, "There was no convincing. After Bianca [our beloved bulldog] passed away, I said I really feel the need and the desire to foster now. I have work to do in bringing more awareness to how great cats are as pets. And [Howard] was on board with me from the second I mentioned it to him. He's been my partner in this and I could not have done this without him. He cuddles them, he kisses them, and he cries when we say goodbye. He's truly incredible." raising money to build a second story — named Bianca's Furry Friends — at the facility. "It's going to be a cage-free cat habitat for the cats that are up for adoption. The cats are going to be healthier and happier and I think living a lovely life until they're adopted. And then it's going to free up the entire downstairs for more puppy mill rescues and adult dog rescues. So it's a win win for dogs and cats."

As for the upcoming holidays, Beth reveals that she and Howard usually spend Christmas Day alone. "I'm going to savor the time we have together [before the next 'AGT' season starts], so we'll probably just be staring at each other at the house with foster kittens crawling all over us."

The first call Robin Quivers made after learning that something might be very wrong with her was to Howard Stern. She was surprised at what he had to say.

“He immediately started talking in terms of ‘we,’ as in, ‘Oh my God, what are “we” going to do?’ ” she recalls. “It was just such an odd thing to say. What did he mean, ‘we’?”

In time, Stern’s longtime sidekick learned precisely what he meant. As listeners of Sirius XM Radio’s “The Howard Stern Show” now know, Quivers was ultimately diagnosed with a form of endometrial cancer and underwent a 12-hour operation in May 2012 to remove a tumor the “size of a grapefruit” from her pelvis.

Stern was there every step of the way, advising her at every turn. When she decided to get a second opinion following the surgery, Stern actually took over.

“Howard told me that he was going to get me the best help, the most up-to-date treatment and anything else I needed,” Quivers tells the Daily News. “He went to work and all I had to do was show up for the appointments and take the phone calls.



“I don’t think I would be here at all if it weren’t for Howard.”

Quivers says her other survival tools can be found in her new book out Tuesday, “The Vegucation of Robin,” where she details the healthy lifestyle she adopted some years back that she believes helped save her life. Her doctors were consistently amazed at how the vegetable-loving 61-year-old could take anything they threw at her.

“My oncologist told me, ‘I am going to dub you the best patient ever,’ ” she recalls. “He said he spent all his time on the phone with patients saying they couldn’t take it anymore, they couldn’t take the nausea, or other effects.
Quivers started her path to health with the Master Cleanse detox but later turned to cardio-care expert Sara Soulati.

Quivers didn’t want her life prolonged, she wanted a cure. So with Stern’s help, she switched to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. There, she committed to a long course of radiation with two chemo treatments at the beginning and end.

“There’s a pervasive feeling that these treatments are devastating and going to do horrible things to the people who take them,” says Quivers. “They kept saying, ‘You are going to feel the fatigue a couple of treatments in.’ Then it was next week. Then it was, ‘Everybody gets tired and eventually you are going to feel this.’ ”

It didn’t happen.

“I said to my doctor, if I get any less fatigued, I’m going to fly,” Quiver laughs, noting that by the end she was doing the radio show in the morning, having dinner with friends and taking in a Broadway show on a typical day.

In fact, throughout the ordeal she only missed two days on-air. Quivers even took the chemo well, reporting to Stern that she got a wonderful night’s sleep afterward.

“Leave it to you to love chemo,” he snarled.

This Wednesday, after working at home for the duration of her illness, she’ll rejoin Stern in the studio. Early on, the shock jock told her he didn’t want to continue with the radio show if something happened to her. The pair has been together since 1981.

“It’s hard to even put into words what that friendship means,” she says.

Three months ago, Quivers was declared cancer free. She celebrated over the summer.

“I got a new house on the Jersey Shore. I just decided I wanted to give myself a big present. I said, you deserve that because you have been through a lot, lady.

“A lot.”

Robin Quivers will be appearing at Barnes & Noble, Union Square, 33 E. 17th St. on Wed., Oct. 9, at 7 p.m

“I never called. None of that was happening to me.”

Quivers was in Pittsburgh last year attending a wedding when a distended abdomen sent her to the emergency room in the middle of the night. She was drained of fluid and sent home alarmed.

“I was sent home with the knowledge that you need to go get looked at and you need to get looked at quickly,” says Quivers.

She called Stern merely looking for a gynecological referral from his wife, Beth. Stern racked his brain before blurting out: “Who’s the biggest hypochondriac we know?!”

The answer was their mutual agent, Don Buchwald, whose recommendation began a medical journey that started with the hugely invasive surgery. Leading up to it, there were harrowing conversations between the two friends and co-hosts.

45-year-old Tanning Mom has entered rehab for alcohol abuse, TMZ has learned.

Sources close to Patricia Krentcil -- who famously faced child endangerment charges last year after allegedly putting her 5-year-old in a tanning booth -- tell us she entered Lukens Institute in Palm Beach Thursday night.

We're told Tanning Mom realized she had hit rock bottom after she was placed in detox for 30 hours at an airport in Minneapolis last week ... for being way too drunk to fly.

Of course, TM has had a few public drunken incidents -- last August she was a wasted, stumbling, panty-flashing mess at a gay nightclub in NYC. 'Memba that? So it's not a huge surprise.

As for why she ended up at Lukens -- the rehab center operated by Michael Lohan -- we're told TM reached out to Michael about treatment because the two went to high school together ... and she heard Michael mention Lukens in a recent interview.

Bloomberg is reporting that Howard Stern lost a bid to revive his pay lawsuit against Sirius XM Radio, following a ruling by a New York state appeals court that he was not entitled to additional compensation. Stern’s production company, One Twelve, along with his agent, Don Buchwald, brought a lawsuit against Sirius XM Radio in 2011, saying that the company refused to pay $300 million in stock awards owed under an agreement that brought the radio personality to it. Justice Barbara Kapnick of state Supreme Court threw out the suit last April, turning aside arguments that subscribers to XM Satellite Radio, which merged with Sirius in 2008, should be counted when calculating the compensation.

discovered a grapefruit sized tumor pressing on her bladder and left the show a week later for "major abdominal surgery". Her voice returned to the show in June 2012, but instead of her glass box in Studio 69, Quivers was now broadcasting from home via ISDN line.

Penguin, the publishing company releasing Quivers' new book, listed a slew of scheduled appearances for the vegan radio star to promote the cookbook/memoir starting at the end of March. As of Thursday, the calendar still had Quivers scheduled for appearances on "TODAY," "Katie" and "Entertainment Tonight". Now that the book release has been pushed back to October, it's unlikely those appearances will happen.

The entire Howard Stern Show cast and crew have remained silent on the details of Quivers' condition, and Stern has been artfully dodging callers' questions on the subject for almost a year now, and on a show where cast's personal lives are treated as public property, that's quite a feat. Unfortunately, it looks as if they'll have to stay mum for quite a while.

According to The New York Post, the answer is Howard.Stern to replace Fallon? That's the latest rumor going around the internet today. On March , the New York Post reported that Howard Stern might take Fallon . The New York Post is reporting that Stern is being "'groomed' by NBC as the new Fallon." Of course, NBC's head of late night Doug Vaughan shot down the story, claiming that the Post's source is "incorrect and that the rumor is without merit."
