The woman responsible for Howard Stern’s nice behavior on #XmSirius #HowardStern

Howard Stern has become politically correct, and the woman getting the credit — or the blame — for taming the shock jock isn’t his wife, Beth Ostrosky.
As the old Wack Pack has disappeared and loyal staffers have been booted, the woman being called “the Yoko Ono of the Stern show” is the chief operating officer of the Stern channels on SiriusXM radio — Marci Turk.
“She’s in her 30s and she’s a hot redhead,” said one longtime insider. “Out of nowhere she was given the title of COO [Tim Sabean was whacked], and has had a very strong hand on how the show is handled and how everyone has to ‘keep Howard’s brand right.’”
Stern, a judge on the family-friendly “America’s Got Talent” TV show for the past three years, renamed “Gary the Retard” Gary the Conqueror. Now a big supporter of gay rights, Stern no longer affects a lisp for segments in “the Homo Room.”
Turk, who never goes on-air as Stern’s previous bosses did, has allegedly banned formerly frequent guests Lisa Lampanelli, Gilbert Gottfried and Craig Gass.
Both Turk and Stern are said to be devotees of David Allen’s book “Getting Things Done: The Art of Stress-Free Productivity.”
“It’s almost a Scientology-type thing,” said my source. “And they are looking at Stern as their Tom Cruise.”
Insiders say Turk has persuaded Howard to take the show to iTunes, Pandora or Spotify when his five-year contract with Sirius expires in December.
“If they can get 1 million subscribers, all paying $12 a month, they’re looking at $144 million a year,” my insider said, “with Howard pocketing $85 to $100 million after overhead.”

Sirius XM Radio (NASDAQ:SIRI): Current price $3.16

Bloomberg is reporting that Howard Stern lost a bid to revive his pay lawsuit against Sirius XM Radio, following a ruling by a New York state appeals court that he was not entitled to additional compensation. Stern’s production company, One Twelve, along with his agent, Don Buchwald, brought a lawsuit against Sirius XM Radio in 2011, saying that the company refused to pay $300 million in stock awards owed under an agreement that brought the radio personality to it. Justice Barbara Kapnick of state Supreme Court threw out the suit last April, turning aside arguments that subscribers to XM Satellite Radio, which merged with Sirius in 2008, should be counted when calculating the compensation.

Sirius XM (NASDAQ:SIRI): Howard Stern to Reduce Work Schedule

When Sirius XM Radio (NASDAQ:SIRI) reached a new five-year deal with Howard Stern last December, details of the renegotiated contract were not disclosed. In contrast to Stern’s previous $500 million deal, of which details were made public, analysts, investors, and listeners alike were left to speculate about how much Stern cost Sirius XM this time around and what his new work schedule would be. Would he do less shows per week and be allotted more vacation time?

Since the new contract was reached Stern has continued his regular Monday through Thursday schedule, leading many to believe that his new deal with Sirius XM included the same work schedule as the previous contract, but in a new interview with Rolling Stone’s Neil Strauss, Howard Stern gives some color on the freedom of his new Sirius XM contract.

In the new interview Stern discussed his thoughts going into the December contract renewal. ”When it came down to sort of figuring out what I was really after, I was pretty sure I was going to leave the radio…I thought I’d kind of done what I needed to do. I still enjoyed it, but I also found that I wanted time to do some other things,” said Stern. “Right now, my schedule is pretty much the same as it’s always been. And then as time rolls on I’ll probably do about three shows a week,” Stern explained.

From Stern’s new comments during the Rolling Stone interview, it appears that his new contract with Sirius XM allows for a reduced work schedule of “about three shows a week.” In light of what appears to be a reduced work schedule for Stern in the new contract, did Sirius XM retain Howard Stern at a reduced rate this time around? Due to the new contract’s secrecy and the way Sirius XM’s balance sheet is structured, the answer to that question may never be known.

Howard Stern annouces another 5 year deal with sirius today live on air

howard agrees with Sirius & Mel C. to a 5 year deal , and the howard stern show will now be avaiable on apple's app and for your blackberry app . radio legend and media personality Howard Stern announced that he’s staying with Sirius XM for another five years. Like he normally does with big announcements, Stern drew out this announcement over a 45 minute period. He’s currently on the air talking about his schedule for the next five years and he says that, initially, he’ll be keeping the 6am through 10am time slot, four days each week. He also announced that his new contract allows him to be available via the various Sirius XM apps for iPhone and BlackBerry, which was important to him.

Stern announced that while he has signed a deal with Sirius XM, his staff hasn’t signed new contracts yet. Robin Quivers specifically stated that she’s not signed to a new contract and that her deal expires at the end of December. Of course, one would have to assume that if Stern was able to sign a new contract with the company, then the rest of his gang would be able to sign follow-on deals

Will Howard Stern sign a new contract with Sirius XM Radio ?

Shock jock Howard Stern brought more than just his oversized personality to satellite radio when he joined Sirius — he also carted along an estimated 1.2 million new subscribers.

Now, five years later, Stern’s $500 million contract with Sirius XM Radio Inc. is nearly up, giving rise to concerns about how well the company would fare without one of its biggest stars. At the moment, its stock is trading around $1 a share and is down 5 percent in the last month, underperforming the Standard & Poor’s 500 stock index.

“There’s a negotiation going on and everyone’s assuming the worst,” said Maxim Group analyst John Tinker, who says uncertainty about Stern has weighed on Sirius XM’s stock.

Still, others point out that over a six-month stretch, the shares are up 11 percent and say worries are overblown that a boatload of Sirius XM’s 19.6 million subscribers would be lost should Stern depart after his contract expires in December.

With or without Stern, they say Sirius XM’s concentration on car radios and partnerships with auto manufacturers will keep its subscriber base growing for years. Last quarter alone it added 583,000 subscribers.

“The company’s in a pretty good position and their operations would be fine and continue even if they lost subscribers because of Stern,” said BGB Securities analyst Murray Arenson.

Another analyst, James Goss from Barrington Research, says that the listeners who followed Stern to Sirius XM may not be ready to leave with him.

“People who took the product then might have found other things they liked about satellite radio, and at this stage, they wouldn’t necessarily leave,” Goss said.

Satellite radio does not have a formal ratings system in place, since it does not rely on advertisements for its profit, so audience numbers are not available for Stern’s show.

Sirius XM did not returns calls seeking comment for this story.

‘WE MIGHT BE DONE’

One possible scenario, analysts said, is Sirius XM and Stern could reach a new contract that called for fewer shows and less money. Under his current contract, Stern produces a show four days a week, as well as other content for the channels Howard 100 and 101.

On air, Stern often talks about wanting to sleep in, work less and spend more time with his second wife, a former model whom he married in 2008.

Besides Stern, Sirius XM has a number of high-profile contracts, including a $600 million deal with Major League Baseball, a $55 million contract with Oprah Winfrey and a $30 million deal with Martha Stewart.

Lately, however, the company has focused on cutting its programming costs. Aiding that effort has been the 2008 deal that merged Sirius with rival XM radio — an arrangement that put an end to bidding wars between the two for talent.

Sirius XM has also gained a key foothold in the auto market. The company said in last quarter’s conference call that about 60 percent of newly manufactured cars now come equipped with a satellite radio.

Even if car sales have been depressed, “six million plus cars a year are still rolling off the assembly line with satellite radios in them,” said Barton Crockett, an analyst at Lazard Capital Markets. He added that the radios could be in 70 million cars by 2015.

Sirius XM has also shown it can get customers to commit to its service after starter promotions end. It has a 46 percent conversion rate, which Barrington Research’s Goss called “very impressive,” and was fueling the company’s momentum.

As for Stern, he has hinted that he may be willing to walk away from Sirius XM, even if traditional radio, which has seen serious revenue declines in the past few years, probably cannot afford to hire him.

On his Aug. 16 show, Stern said, “I do get a little charge out of thinking that in December we might be done. I get a little turned on by that,” according to an audio clip posted on a fan web site.

But such remarks about his uncertain future could be one of Stern’s tactics in his talks with Sirius XM. Stern joined Sirius in 2006 prior to the merger.

“From a negotiating perspective, he wants Sirius to think that he’s thinking of leaving so they’ll bid more,” Gabelli & Co analyst Brett Harriss said.

Tinker, from the Maxim Group, said Stern’s loud chatter over the contract should come as no surprise to longtime fans.

“This has always been a part of Howard Stern’s act — the drama around what’s Howard going to do next?”

The answer to that could come shortly. Sirius XM Chief Executive Mel Karmazin signed off a conference call in August by saying he would have news about Stern in time for next quarter’s results.

Crockett, of Lazard, said he was heartened by the comments. “It suggested to me that [Karmazin] will have a renewal with Stern that investors are comfortable with,” he said

Stern on the Merger !

NO MERGER TALK TODAY Howard started off the show saying he wasn't going to comment on the merger until it was set in stone: “I'm not going to believe it until we're on XM.” Howard said he got an email from Mel at 3:30am on Saturday, but not a drunken one – Mel was hard at work. Artie laughed that Mel gets a high off of working like most guys do from drinking. Artie asked if the stock went up, and Howard reported that it had.
