Howard Stern Quit SiriusXM? Not for a 'Loser' Podcast
Bloomberg By F. Gillette
NEW ORLEANS, LA - MARCH 04: Howard Stern attends the "America's Got Talent" New Orleans auditions as …
Someday, inevitably, given the nature of entertainment, gravity and age, Howard Stern's magical satellite radio ride will end. It could even happen this week. We'll know soon.
On the morning of Wednesday, Dec. 16, Stern will host his final show under a five-year contract with SiriusXM. What he will do next remains a mystery. He could walk away from the medium, as he once did from broadcast, to try his hand at, say, Internet radio. Or he could retire. Or he could sign a new contract with SiriusXM. During his show last week, Stern told listeners he hasn't made up his mind. If past is precedent, he will probably reveal his next move on the air in the coming days. There's a lot of money riding on the decision.

Stern, who will turn 62 in January, remains one of the top rainmakers in American radio, and SiriusXM—which is flush, thanks to its large, growing subscriber base—would like to keep him. But these are tumultuous times for the industry, and any number of companies jockeying for market share in the emerging world of Internet radio could benefit immensely from luring Stern and his rabid fan base away from SiriusXM.
Over the past year, Stern has claimed to have at least one tempting offer, though he declined to name the suitor. In the meantime, his fans provided plenty of ideas on what he should do next. Clearly, he should join Apple, some insisted, or Google or Pandora or Spotify. Along the way, Stern suggested he's open to almost any scenario—except podcasting.
"If you want to be in radio, forget a podcast," Stern told his audience earlier this year. "Podcasts are for losers."
More from Bloomberg.com: Russia Warship Fires Warning to Stop Turkish Boat Collision
Wherever Stern lands, his talents won't come cheap. His current contract reportedly costs SiriusXM about $80 million a year. The satellite radio provider can afford such lofty programming costs, in large part, because of Stern's decision to leap to satellite radio in 2005. At the time, Sirius was the struggling runner-up in an unproven medium. Thanks to Stern, it soon caught up with, then surpassed, and finally swallowed rival XM Satellite Radio.
It has been a prosperous, if sometimes acrimonious, marriage ever since.
SiriusXM has grown into a thriving business with a large U.S. following, particularly among high-end car owners with built-in satellite radio. The company has about 29 million subscribers who typically pay from $9.99 to $18.99 a month. In addition to Stern, they get more than 175 channels of curated music, talk radio, and live sports, including professional basketball, baseball, football, and hockey. In 2014, SiriusXM racked up $1.4 billion in profit from $4.2 billion of revenue.

How much of that financial success depends on Stern is a favorite topic of debate among fans and critics. Satellite radio relies on a one-way signal, which is much more difficult to measure than Internet radio. There are no estimates of channel vs. channel ratings from a third party provider such as Nielsen. As a result, it’s unclear exactly how many subscribers tune into Stern on a regular basis, or how many would follow him if he were to walk away.
There is some indication of how big a deal his decision will be, though. Last year, Macquarie surveyed 800 SiriusXM listeners and found 12 percent tuned in to Stern—the equivalent of about 3.5 million subscribers. Of those surveyed, 5 percent said they’d consider leaving SiriusXM if Stern took his show elsewhere. Those numbers suggest that the company could lose more than $240 million in annual revenue if it can't hold on to him. That would be a serious blow to SiriusXM.
In February, Chief Executive Officer Jim Meyer told Bloomberg Businessweek he would like to sign Stern to a new contract—that is, if they could agree on a price. At the same time, Meyer has worked hard behind the scenes to keep his franchise player happy. He threw Stern a lavish 60th birthday party, allowed him to start the show an hour later every morning, and even blessed his moonlighting activities.
This week, we are likely to find out if all that was enough. At the end of his Dec. 9 show, Stern told listeners he still hadn't made up his mind. He didn't sound, however, like a media legend ready to shuffle off.
"I hope something works out," said Stern. "If it doesn't, we'll be somewhere, OK. Don't worry about us. ... You might find us on one of those fakakte podcasts."
He was kidding, of course.

Howard Stern daughter said King of all media " put me off dating men " my daddy

A couple of blocks away from the Upper West Side home of radio’s king of raunch, Howard Stern, his Torah-scholar daughter sits in her ankle-length skirt and recites a blessing.
Emily Stern, 32, couldn’t have a life more different from her famous father’s.

Nearly a decade ago, Howard’s eldest child decided to practice Orthodox Judaism, and traded in Friday nights about town for 20-person Shabbat dinners in an uptown apartment. Strappy dresses gave way to outfits that cover her elbows and knees.
She’s also single — and chalks that up to her pop’s habit of blabbing about graphic sex on the airwaves five days a week.
“It’s rare I go on dates [now],” Emily tells The Post. And, “my dad’s emphasis on sexuality [in his career] kept me out of the dating ring [when I was younger].”
She’s also still scarred by her parents’ 1999 split — Howard divorced college sweetheart Alison Berns, the mother of Emily and her sisters, Ashley and Debra, after 21 years of marriage.
“I believed that my parents were very much in love,” Emily says. “I felt like the divorce came out of nowhere. I thought that sacred bond was so strong. He used to be one way, and then he marries a model.” (Howard, 61, married blond bombshell Beth Ostrosky, who is 18 years his junior, in 2008.)

She muses that her mom’s re-entry into the working world might have been the straw that broke Howard’s back. “Maybe he couldn’t handle it when she went back to work as a psychoanalyst.”
Raised in tony Old Westbury, LI, the Stern daughters’ sheen as progeny of a celebrity belied a much more complicated adolescence.
Emily says it was difficult to deal with Howard’s fame.
“My dad always instilled in us, ‘Everybody’s watching you,’ ” she recalls. While Howard “always said it was for our protection,” she attributes his warnings to “narcissism.”
“I was alone. The belief that we were so different made it unhealthy,” she says. “Maybe because he was disconnected from the world, he experienced so much shame about who he was.”
She grew up fasting for Yom Kippur and enjoying family Passover Seders, but her parents weren’t particularly religious. Howard once said on-air that he hated wearing yarmulkes and joked that the theme of Emily’s bat mitzvah should be “I hate Jews.”
But Howard and Alison did practice Transcendental Meditation. Emily got her first mantra at age 10, and still practices today. In 2014, Howard told Jerry Seinfeld on an episode of “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee” that “everyone in my life meditates; I don’t think I could really live without it.”
Emily went on to graduate from the theater program at NYU’s Tisch School, but laments a lack of familial guidance when it came to pursuing a career.
“We never discussed what I’d be when I was growing up,” she says. “It sort of did me a disservice.” She now works full-time as an artist (writing plays and music and acting) while also studying Torah at the Drisha Institute.
In 2005, she was cast in the off-off-Broadway play “Kabbalah.”
Playing Madonna, Emily says she was “so excited for and committed to” the role that she colored her raven locks blond — and went nude.
But things went south after mediocre reviews surfaced. According to Emily, low ticket sales forced director Tuvia Tenenbom to trade on her “daughter-of” status — and an unauthorized video of her wearing next to nothing — to promote the show. (Tenenbom denies doing any of this.)

Gan Tiferet (Garden of Compassion) is part of Emily Stern’s series “Wells of Miriam.”
She quit six weeks in, armed with the muscle of her father’s lawyers.
“I told the director, ‘Don’t advertise who I am.’ He manipulated my love for the show for his gain,” she says.
Still, even now that she lives a life of modesty, Emily doesn’t regret the experience, and won’t discount the possibility of getting nude onstage again.
“I don’t say never to anything,” she coyly concedes.
Her next public exhibition is much more sedate: a photo exhibit opening Nov. 18 at the Hadas Gallery in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn, that focuses on the water-retention landscape in Portugal. Emily calls the works the “Wells of Miriam” because it reminds her of the “mikveh,” a ritual bath in Judaism that’s associated with renewal.

Lazman Hazeh (To Reach Now) is also a part of the series “Wells of Miriam.”
“This is my way to connect with the world,” she says of her art.
As for connecting with her family these days, Emily says she is “close with both my parents” and that they have no problem with her more-religious life. “Everyone in my family is evolving — no one has that resentment toward Judaism,” she explains. She even keeps her own set of kosher dishware at her mom’s place for family dinners (sans Howard, of course).
“It took a lot of bravery [to become religious],” she says of her change over the past nine or so years. “I was trying to figure out what to be in the world. I’d say, ‘God help me.’
“The question was, ‘What am I going to do with my life?’ It was a little bit of a crisis,” she admits.
“F - - k it if [people] think it’s weird or doesn’t make sense.”

The woman responsible for Howard Stern’s nice behavior on #XmSirius #HowardStern
Please RT & Share w/ fellow Howard Stern Fans . Help support Blog Shop @ Amazon Click above on Amazon Links . THX
Howard Stern has become politically correct, and the woman getting the credit — or the blame — for taming the shock jock isn’t his wife, Beth Ostrosky.
As the old Wack Pack has disappeared and loyal staffers have been booted, the woman being called “the Yoko Ono of the Stern show” is the chief operating officer of the Stern channels on SiriusXM radio — Marci Turk.
“She’s in her 30s and she’s a hot redhead,” said one longtime insider. “Out of nowhere she was given the title of COO [Tim Sabean was whacked], and has had a very strong hand on how the show is handled and how everyone has to ‘keep Howard’s brand right.’”
Stern, a judge on the family-friendly “America’s Got Talent” TV show for the past three years, renamed “Gary the Retard” Gary the Conqueror. Now a big supporter of gay rights, Stern no longer affects a lisp for segments in “the Homo Room.”
Turk, who never goes on-air as Stern’s previous bosses did, has allegedly banned formerly frequent guests Lisa Lampanelli, Gilbert Gottfried and Craig Gass.
Both Turk and Stern are said to be devotees of David Allen’s book “Getting Things Done: The Art of Stress-Free Productivity.”
“It’s almost a Scientology-type thing,” said my source. “And they are looking at Stern as their Tom Cruise.”
Insiders say Turk has persuaded Howard to take the show to iTunes, Pandora or Spotify when his five-year contract with Sirius expires in December.
“If they can get 1 million subscribers, all paying $12 a month, they’re looking at $144 million a year,” my insider said, “with Howard pocketing $85 to $100 million after overhead.”

Robins Cryotherapy at the Thermes Marins-Monte Carlo Spa ?

Could you handle spending a few minutes in minus 166 degrees Fahrenheit? Lindsay Lohan did. The bikini-clad star shared photos on Instagram on Monday showing her coming out of the super cool chambers with her friend Brittany Byrd. Lohan isn’t alone in her love for chilling out — LeBron James has been using cryotherapy to recover in-between NBA playoff games. This type of therapy comes with a lot of benefits, from stress relief to anti-aging. I visited the Thermes Marins-Monte Carlo spa in Monaco, which offers the state-of-the-art treatment. Here's the scoop on the new beauty and health treatment:
The treatment: Cryotherapy at the Thermes Marins-Monte Carlo spa in Monaco.
The lowdown: This is the first and only spa in Europe to offer cryotherapy. Essentially, you spend a few (rather painful) minutes in a very cold room, and come out feeling insanely rejuvenated.
The scoop: You enter the cryotherapy chamber wearing nothing but your your swimwear (warning: no metal pieces allowed on your suit), and the accessories the spa therapist gives you (socks, gloves, a facemask, and a headband). Spend 10 seconds in the first chamber, set at a cool minus 76 degrees, just to get acclimated. Then you move to the second chamber, which is minus 166 degrees, in which you can spend a max of three minutes in and a minimum of two minutes. You’re encouraged to move around while inside to stimulate blood circulation. After exiting the ice-cold room, it takes about a half-hour to recover your skin temperature, and then you start to feel the treatment’s effects.
“The shocklike extreme cold stimulus, and the severe reduction in skin surface temperature over minutes, brings about a cryogenic influencing of the functions of neural structures as well as induction of neuroreflexive process that exert effects on various regulatory pathways,” explains the spa’s manual and high-tech therapy manager, Christophe Fautrier. “There are treatments with similar effects on blood circulation, but whole-body cryotherapy gives you more benefits, and provides the best oxygenation of the blood, an increase of serotonin level. There is no three-minute treatment that can give you more.”
The results: It definitely takes a little time to recover from the shock of the dry, cold air treatment, but it well worth it. Cryotherapy has been proven to be loaded with benefits, especially when it comes to improving sleep disorders, reducing stress, helping athletes recover, and anti-aging. I was feeling exhausted after a long, overnight flight, and found it to be the perfect jet-lag cure. Just a few hours later, I felt completely refreshed and full of renewed energy. Maybe it was just that fresh salt air, or it was the treatment, but I also felt my complexion suddenly looked dewy and vibrant (a far cry from the way it looked when I got off the plane). I hear it also happens to be an excellent hangover cure for those late, Monte Carlo party nights.
Details: Allow 15 minutes for the treatment from start to finish. Fautrier warns people with the following conditions against the treatment: pregnancy, severe hypertension (blood pressure > 180/100), acute or recent myocardial infarction, unstable angina pectoris, arrhythmia, symptomatic cardiovascular disease, cardiac pacemaker, peripheral arterial occlusive disease, venous thrombosis, acute or recent cerebrovascular accident, uncontrolled seizures, Raynaud’s Syndrome, fever, tumor disease, symptomatic lung disorders, bleeding disorders, severe anemia, infection, claustrophobia, cold allergy, and acute kidney and urinary tract diseases.

Hyena is a collection of autobiographical stories by Jude Angelini, which takes the reader on his journey of heartbreak, depravity, and hilarity, deftly moving between his adult life and his childhood growing up in a factory town outside of Detroit. Each story is told with brutal honesty, yet maintains a gallows humor that will leave you shaking your head in disbelief.
Jude is one of the top hip-hop radio hosts on Sirius Satellite radio. His self-published, print-on-demand edition of Hyena has been an indie bestseller, despite having no ebook or physical distribution. Its exploration of drugs, sex, and the human condition compares to Charles Bukowski, Hunter S. Thompson, Artie Lange, and Jim Norton. It also captures the hardscrabble culture, language, and landscape of post-industrial Detroit, from which came some of pop culture’s most compelling artists

Howard Stern has a dream job offer ?
Please RT & Share w/ fellow Howard Stern Fans . Help support Blog Shop @ Amazon Click above on Amazon Links . THX
Howard Stern may or may not renew his lucrative contract with SiriusXM at the end of the year, but he will apparently have plenty of other opportunities to consider.
In fact, Stern said on his radio show Monday that a massive job offer recently fell into his lap.
"My agent called me with an opportunity that is so mind-blowing -- like, it would be the dream job of all time for me," Stern said.
He didn't divulge any specifics about the opportunity, though he joked that he had been offered a gig on the embattled E! program, "Fashion Police."
Stern's uncertain future with the satellite radio company has drawn increased attention following a Bloomberg Businessweek profile published earlier this month.
In the profile, Sirius CEO Jim Meyer made it clear that he wants to renew Stern's contract, which will expire in December.
"I want Howard Stern for as long as Howard Stern wants to work," Meyer told Bloomberg Businessweek reporter Felix Gillette. "I'm only willing to pay so much." He said. "I know what that number is. But even if I was in an al-Qaeda death camp, no one is going to know what that number is but me."
