DR. Drew and Robin's pitch ....

ROBIN'S PITCH STRIKES HOME Early in the show, Howard commended Robin for topping Gary's 'Jimmy Kimmel Live' pitches--in just one try. Robin said she benefitted, unlike Gary, from a clear mind: "I didn't really have time to think about anything." Howard described the scene of Robin's strike: "She went with high heels and you know--high heels, for Christ's sake--and threw the ball better than anybody." Robin wondered why Gary had such a hard time throwing a ball: "How could Gary not be able to do this? It's so easy. And I don't even know what I'm doing." Howard laughed that Robin had emasculated yet another staffer: "Gary looked like a woman." Robin cut in: "No, I'm a woman. He's less than." Howard asked how 'less than' Gary really was: "Are you great or is Gary just physically retarded?" GARY'S ENDLESS BOOK TOUR Howard complained that Gary's endless 'They Call Me Baba Booey' promotion tour was beginning to backfire, as the media often decontextualizes Gary's appearances and interviews and uses them to speculate about Howard: "I feel overly discussed on all these shows. I'm happy for you. I've told you this. [But] I didn't know your book promotion was going to go on for a year. Enough. It's too much. Listen, Gary: nobody gives a damn." Gary said his book promotion has never interfered with his work ("I never left being a producer.") and hadn't grown any larger than planned: "This was all laid out by the publicist in advance." Howard didn't understand the extended timetable: "I've never seen a book promotion go on so long. The President of the United States [didn't] go on this long. It's enough. We've gotten the word...usually it's done in a two week period...calm down now." STICK TO PRODUCING, BABA BOOEY Howard continued to complain about Gary's interviews: "They don't want to talk about him. Because who cares about him? They get a hold of him and they want to talk about me." Robin thought it made sense: "The most exciting thing about Gary is that he works with you." Howard agreed but didn't want Gary to serve as the show's media representative: "I can control me. I can't control you." Later, after Howard again started taking shots at Gary's book tour, Gary called it off, shouting: "I just said I'll end it!" Howard doubtfully turned to Robin: "He's not ending anything...he's Baba Booey. He loves it." Gary admitted: "Alright. I'm scaling it back." Gary said the tour would be over by next Thursday--Howard mockingly wondered what Gary had left to do: "You were on HDNet. You've done it all." DR. DREW SAYS: DON'T BE A DOCTOR Dr. Drew stopped by to promote the new season of 'Celebrity Rehab' and told the crew about the hardships facing many family practice doctors: "It's the most adulterated of all areas of the profession." Drew said the rising cost of malpractice insurance and attendant stress were a large part of why he left behind a more traditional means of practicing medicine: "It pushed me out a little bit." So when his son said he wanted to be a doctor, Drew leveled with him: "I said, 'Make sure it's something you’ve got to do.'" IS 'CELEBRITY REHAB' AN ABOMINATION? Robin, still burning from her high score on Drew's narcissism test, wondered how Drew made the leap from family practice to TV: "Don't you think 'Celebrity Rehab' is kind of an abomination? It's not real medicine. You're not really helping anybody." Drew argued that he didn't change anything for the cameras: "I do exactly what I do in my regular treatment program with my usual team. We don't do anything different than we always do."

They Call Me Baba Booey [Hardcover]They Call Me Baba BooeyThey Call Me Baba Booey

They Call Me Baba BooeyOne of pop culture’s great enduring unsung heroes: Gary Dell’Abate, Howard Stern Show producer, miracle worker, professional good sport, and servant to the King of All Media, for the first time tells the story of his early years and reveals how his chaotic childhood and early obsessions prepared him for life at the center of the greatest show on earth.

Baba Booey! Baba Booey! It was a slip of the tongue—that unfortunately was heard by a few million listeners—but in that split second a nickname, a persona, a rallying cry, and a phenomenon was born. Some would say it was the moment Gary Dell’Abate, the long-suffering heroic producer of The Howard Stern Show, for better or worse, finally came into his own. In They Call Me Baba Booey, Dell’Abate explains how his early life was the perfect training ground for the day-to-day chaos that comes with producing the most popular radio show on earth.

Growing up on Long Island in the 1970s, the youngest of three boys born to a clinically depressed mother, Gary learned how to fend for himself when under attack. Obsessed with music, he listened with religious intensity to Casey Kasem's Top 40 every Sunday morning, compulsively bought 45s of his favorite songs, and nerdily copied the lyrics into a notebook. Music became an ordering principle to his life, even as the chaos at home got out of hand. Dell’Abate’s memoir sketches the trajectory from the obsessive pop-music trivia buff to the man in the beekeeper’s mask who handily defeats his opponents playing “Stump the Booey.” We learn about the memorable moments in his life that taught him to endure epic bouts of humiliation and get his unique perspective on some of his favorite Stern show episodes—such as the day he nearly killed the Mets mascot while throwing out the first pitch, or the time his mother called Howard’s mother and demanded an apology. They Call Me Baba Booey

Hilarious, painful, and eye-opening, it’s Gary as you’ve never seen him before, telling a story that even Stern show insiders can’t begin to imagine.

LESLIE MARIE SANTA MISS HOWARDTV OCTOBER / GARY IS GOING ON DAVID LETTERMAN

LESLIE MARIE SANTA MISS HOWARDTV OCTOBER

Leslie Marie Santa, Miss HowardTV for the month of October, stopped by and showed off her 5'4", 98lb frame: "I kind of stopped growing in 8th grade." Howard laughed: "You're like a little kid--almost. With big giant jugs."

Leslie said she liked to put said jugs to good use ("I cook topless a lot.") and was always ready to go: "If I'm not in the mood, I'm not going to shut it down. I'll still do things for him...I just like to please my man."

MIDGETS MAKE HER PASS OUT

Leslie revealed that she passed out whenever she saw a midget: "That's been happening to me since I was little and I don't really know why...it's not like I'm trying to be an asshole. I don't know why." Howard thought Leslie posed a danger to others ("Can you drive a car? What if you see a midget while you're driving?") and got Eric the Midget on the line to ask what he thought. Eric was annoyed: "Why do you have to put me on now?"

While Eric was on the line, Leslie looked around fearfully: "He better not be here...I don't want to see him walking around like that little Oompa Loompa walk." Howard thought Leslie needed to confront her fear like G. Gordon Liddy, who overcame his mortal fear of rats by eating one: "You have to eat a midget." Both Leslie and Eric refused. Fred laughed that Leslie was almost too good to be true: "Everything sounds perfect. She must have a cock."
BABA BOOEY TO DO LETTERMAN.  HOWARD STERN.COM

Lisa G reported that Gary had been booked to appear on Letterman to promote 'They Call Me Baba Booey.' Gary was very excited about the news: "It's a big booking, man. It's huge." Howard wondered how Letterman would introduce Gary: "Ladies and gentleman, here's a guy nobody cares about. He's written a book about himself." Gary laughed: "I spent the whole weekend thinking about what he's going to talk to me about, and I couldn't come up with anything."

After riffing on the bomb-potential of the segment for a while, Howard changed his mind, saying he thought Gary's segment might go well: "One thing Gary's not short on is words." But Howard and Fred still doubted whether Gary's book was any good. Gary bristled: "Was every single page in your book gold, Howard?" Howard admitted Gary had a point--an irrelevant one: "But I'm Howard."

Dear Mrs. Fitzsimmons: Tales of Redemption from an Irish Mailbox book

Greg Fitzsimmons called in to say Howard had no right to complain about writing a foreword for his book: "You put yourself on the hook. I sent you a note with an option. There wasn't an f’ing gun to your head." Howard apologized for his spinelessness: "I didn't want to disappoint you. You're a friend. You're a nice guy." Howard said 'a real man' would've called Greg off the air and declined: "I'm the opposite of that. I'm very childish. I tantrum."

They Call Me Baba Booey
Even though he'd apologized for his rants, Howard insisted he'd actually done Greg a favor: "No one gave a shit about your book. But now they do because I've been carrying on about it." Greg shrugged: "I never once said, 'Hey, where's the [foreword]'...don't write the thing. I don't want you to." Greg then floated the idea of just printing Howard's rants as the foreword--and Howard jumped at the idea, telling the staff to send Greg transcripts: "Consider it done." Greg thought it'd be perfect: "Me being shit on is exactly what the book is about."

GARY'S MEMOIR: 'THEY CALL ME BABA BOOEY'

Lisa G reported that Gary had sold his memoir, 'They Call Me Baba Booey,' to Random House, and Howard confirmed the story, saying he'd recently signed off on the project after Gary promised it'd be about growing up with his mother, who apparently had some “issues.” Howard said Gary turned out alright thanks to his father, who once told him, "There's something wrong with your mom. There's nothing wrong with you." Howard commended Gary's father: "I thought your father was very wise for doing that."
Gary came in to say his shrink has a theory about growing up in the Dell'Abate household: "Every day when you turned the doorknob you didn't know if you were going to be kicked in the teeth emotionally or hugged." Howard laughed: Everything with you is teeth!" Gary said his boyhood home's front door prepared him for working on the show: "It's kind of like opening the door to the studio every day."

TRACEY'S 'HAPPY HOUR: on howard 101 ...

TRACEY'S 'HAPPY HOUR' CLOWNS BOOEY

Howard played a clip from Stern office manager Tracey's 'Happy Hour' show in which she took aim at Gary: "Gary, you f’, I love you. I do. And I don't consider you a piece of shit but you're kind of a piece of shit. You know, one of things I can say about Gary is that when I first started here he always said, 'It's a boy's club blah blah blah it's gonna be hard for you,' [but] the only f’ing one that treats me any different than everybody else is Gary."
New Jersey Stuff

GARY'S DEFENSE

Gary came in to answer the charges, saying, "I probably stop in Tracey's office once a week because I--here's the thing with Tracey: The word of the day is respect. You either respect her. If you don't respect her enough, you disrespect her. You know what I mean? And my feeling is that if you hang around with Tracey long enough, you're going to disrespect her because it's impossible to give her the amount of respect she requires on a daily basis."
Gary added that Tracey's need for respect was unbecoming: "She desperately wants affirmation and respect. Desperately." Howard played another clip from the show in which Tracey ranted: "That motherf’er had the audacity to call me into his office to clean out his refrigerator...you want to just slap me on the ass and hand me a five when I leave too? Could you be more f’ing disrespectful? How dare you, you f’ing Adelphi graduate? Treat me like I'm a f’ing piece of shit there to clean your f’ing ass after you shit?"

TRACEY DESTROYS AGAIN!

In yet another clip, Tracey said she'd recently tried to pass an important message to Gary but "He was busy talking to Ross Zapin, I'm sure about either f’ing Bruce Springsteen or the Mets or the Jets or something irrelevant." Gary said he was blindsided by Tracey's statement about his fridge, adding that she should change the name of her show: "The only one happy in that hour is Tracey...this entire office lives in fear of her."

TRACEY'S REBUTTAL

Later, Tracey came in to say she did tell Gary she wasn't happy being his fridge-cleaner: "I told you how I felt about the refrigerator. We had the conversation. You don't remember it because you don't listen to me."
Tracey also told the crew she'd only aired her grievances with Gary because she was asked to: "I did the first show and I was flat out told by Tim, 'Ok. You need to be angrier. You need to be edgier. You need to do this. This is what we want. This is why we want to do the show.' But then if I'm gonna get f’ed the next day, it's not worth it! I don't need that shit. You make me seek out reasons why and then when I--when I do exactly what you've asked, I'm the f’ing asshole."

Gary talks about the JETS !

GARY GIVES IT UP FOR PEYTON

Gary told Howard he'd been really excited for Sunday's Jets/Colts game: "Yesterday was like Christmas morning for me. I couldn't sleep."
Gary gave Peyton Manning most of the credit for the Colts win, citing Peyton' ability to call plays from the line – and pretty much coach the team himself – leading Howard to wish he'd had bosses at NBC as hands-off as the Colts head coach: "Sometimes the guy who knows not to tinker is the best guy."

Gary Vs Yucko The Clown

Yucko called in to insult the crew and started with Robin's 'Joy Behar' appearance: "She sounds more stupid on that show than she did on 'Jeopardy.'" Yucko then turned to Gary, who returned fire with a reference to Yucko's recent divorce. Yucko tried to shrug it off ("At least I got more than Techno Beaver and Solitaire going on in my life.") but Gary stayed on the attack: "You wanna *not* be known? You're doing a great f’ing job!"

Gary really opened fire on Yucko: "You haven't been funny on the show in ages and you probably won't be on any time soon because you suck on the show!" Yucko's attempts to return fire kept missing the mark and Gary parried well: "You were vicious and funny and then you just became sad." Yucko started to sound defeated ("Whatever. I'm not f’king sad. I know that f’ing much.") so Gary went for the knockout: "Your act is stale. You haven't created anything new and you're kind of depressing...you're not a funny clown. You're a depressing clown." Yucko replied that he would go write some zingers to respond to Gary and call in with them tomorrow.

GARY VS SCOTT DEPACE

On the Wrap Up Show, Scott DePace claimed he'd tried to have a discussion about the Jets/Chargers playoff game but Gary had dismissed his opinion outright. Gary laughed: "That's because your opinion was wrong." Scott said Gary never considered opinions that differ from his own, and Gary said the same thing about Scott, adding that Scott's opinion – that the Chargers blew the game – was a biased/"sour grapes" take on the outcome.

Gary speculated that Scott didn't respect him, but Scott clarified – he merely doesn't respect Gary's football opinions, just as he wouldn't respect his golf opinions: "I'm not arrogant. Just confident." As the argument heated up, it came out that Scott didn't even respect Jon Hein's take on TV. Jon replied diplomatically – saying he wasn't a 'TV authority,' but rather someone who conducts arguments in a way that some people respect and want to hear out.

Watch Gary 'BaBa Booey' Dell'Abate - Mets First Pitch misses home plate by a mile !

Gary Dell’Abate (we all know him as Baba Booey) from the Howard Stern show delivered what has to be the most embarrassing ceremonial first pitch in baseball history Saturday. He had been talking for weeks on the Stern show about doing this, and Saturday he finally got his shot. The video is below. While it's pretty bad, he may actually be better than Perez and Green combined. If you look closely, you can see Stern sidekick Artie Lange - a Met hater - to the far left during the pitch. In all seriousness, Dell’Abate - a big Mets fan - was at Citi Field as a celebrity guest for Autism Awareness day, which is not only a great cause, but one that is very dear to my heart. Good job, Gary. HAha Gary Dell'Abate, producer of The Howard Stern Show attempts to throw out the first pitch for the New York Mets on 05/09/09. Gary throws like a girl ! I thought he had more skills than that ! Your Thoughts ?

Gary"s Home Theater Pic !

GARY’S HOME THEATER TAKES OVER THE SHOW GARY’S STOOL PROBLEM Gary told the crew that he was having some people over to watch the Super Bowl in his home theater, but Howard thought it was weird that Gary planned on entertaining during a game he wanted to watch (and giving up all the good seats to his guests). Gary quickly became annoyed with Howard's criticism: "Everybody's got an opinion." A caller came to Gary's defense, so Howard explained his issue was more general: "He just does everything wrong." GARY FILIBUSTERS Gary slipped and said he stood behind the decision, and Howard seized the opportunity: "You're right. You will be standing." Gary admitted that there were 8 "comfy" chairs and 3 stools at the bar in the back of the room. Adding that he and his wife would probably be on the stools (with Sal: "So I can keep an eye on him."), and the guests Mary invited would get the comfy chairs. Gary quipped that the guys in the back always wonder who Howard’s “wheel” would land on on the days there were no guests on the show: today was Gary’s turn. Howard looked at pictures of Gary's home theater and asked if Gary got paid for allowing it to be photographed. Gary refused to answer and repeatedly yelled "LALALALALA" over the crew's questions/discussion on the topic. Everyone cracked up over Gary's behavior and added that Gary made a mistake by allowing Sound & Vision magazine to publish both pictures and floor-plan of his home. howardstern.com
